UndoDB (non-commercial license)
We recognize that UndoDB's development would have
been more difficult without GNU/Linux and the rest of the free software
world and we would have liked to release UndoDB as free software.
Unfortunately, we couldn't see any way of getting revenue this way; in the real
world beer is not free, and we at Undo
Ltd have ourselves and our families to support.
However, in order to do what we can, we have decided to release
UndoDB free of charge (as in free beer) for non-commercial use,
partly to acknowledge our debt to the open-source world, and partly as a
form of advertising.
By non-commercial use, we mean that if you are not being paid to write the
software you're using UndoDB to debug, or if you're using UndoDB for
academic purposes, then you're entitled to the non-commercial license. Note
that non-commercial use in this context does not necessarily mean developing
free or open-source software. What matters is whether you the user are being
paid a salary or any other monetary compensation to write the software. The
premise here is that UndoDB promises to save considerable development
time. Since this translates directly to a reduction of costs for
commercial software development, we feel it is reasonable that we share
some of these rewards.
In order to reduce illegitimate use of the non-commercial license,
the license is tied to one machine, based on the machine's MAC
address. We also ask you to give a brief description (or just a URL)
of the non-commercial project with which you will use UndoDB
(we do check these, so please don't lie!)
The non-commercial licenses does not expire.
